Physiatrists are medical specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and work with patients to eliminate any barriers impeding their transition home. They provide guidance to the rehab team to help assure quality therapy outcomes by providing additional oversight of patient progress, reducing pain and motivating patients and their families.
Dr. Gnatz is the Chief Medical Officer for Integrated Rehab Consultants, a nationwide group of physiatrists practicing sub-acute rehabilitation. He holds faculty appointment in the department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. Dr. Gnatz served as Medical Director of PHysical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Loyola University between 2004 and 2014. Prior to that, he was Executive Vice President for Medical Services at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital. Dr. Gnatz received his medical degree from the University of Illinois and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He received his master's degree in health administration from the University of Missouri. He has authored many peer-reviewed articles and the well-regarded book, EMG Basics. Most recently, he was highlighted in McKnight's Long-term Care News. Dr. Gnatz remains very active in organized medicine; he is a Past President of the US Bone and Joint Initiative with the goal of minimizing the burden of musculoskeletal disorders in America, as well as Past President of the American Academy of PHysical Medicine and Rehabilitation and has held many other leadership positions in professional associations. A bicyclist, writer and photographer in his spare time, Dr. Gnatz lives in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois with his wife, two daughters, and their two mini golden doodles, Max and Daisy.
