James' Neurological Recovery Story at Heartland Health Care Center - Fostrian
"I started feeling dizzy, weak and falling. It turned out that I had too much pressure on my brain. I had brain surgery where I had shunts and drains put in. It was a long and extensive hospital stay and I needed post-acute care before returning home.
When I arrived at Heartland Health Care Center - Fostrian, I couldn't even get out of bed on my own. The staff needed to use a mechanical lift to help me get out of bed. I just couldn't get my legs to work. Therapy at Heartland was amazing. They really pushed me really hard. The therapists would say, 'James, you have to do this.' They didn't give up on me, but instead supported and encouraged me. Some of the exercises they asked me to do seemed silly, but there was always a reason for what they had me do. They helped me improve my balance, strength and endurance.
It has been a long battle, but I am thankful to say I am now able to walk with a walker and I am getting stronger everyday. My family is very proud of me and I am proud of myself. We have been very happy with the care and services I have received at Heartland - Fostrian. If you need help, Heartland is here to help and encourage you. I would definitely recommend Heartland - Fostrian to others. I can honestly and proudly say that I love it there!" - James, Heartland Patient
